Cartago y Orosi

Ah, the beauty of Costa Rica! Our 'foster parents'(the Tico couple who we lived next door to in Coronado) took us to see the Cartago and Orosi area. Another place that puts you in awe of beauty of nature. Costa Rica does that to me just about every day!

Sanatorio Carlos Duran

Samantha's album of one of the places we visited yesterday. Any of you film-makers out there, we want to make a movie there!

This place was a tuberculosis hospital and then a penitentiary. Now it's abandoned. It's awesome that it's not locked up, you can wander around the building all you want, not sure how safe it is, especially with all the ghosts... But seriously I would love to spend a night here. What a perfect film location it would be!! Slideshow of Samanthas photos and a Youtube video I found below.

Hippies? Maybe.

It's always funny to look back on old photos and laugh at how you used to look! Maybe this photo explains why our parents were nervous about us having a kid so young... nah, it had nothing to do with how we looked. I mean Samantha was only 19!

This one was taken right before I went to my first Grateful Dead concert. It was with my high-school girlfriend Jessi and her parents and friends. I had to borrow Jessi's tie-dye, because all I owned was Motley Crue and Metallica T-shirts. (I'm the one on the right wearing the purple Hendrix shirt... the one who looks like a girl. All I can say about that adventure without getting anyone in trouble is: 'What a long, strange trip it was.'

Below -Mike Mudd w/ Paul Edward Sanchez

My original tune from his CD -M-. Performed live at Artichoke's legendary Backgate Stage at the Mudd and Bones Central America send-off party. With Paul Sanchez on piano. I usually get choked up on this one...

Shopping at the Feria

We finally took our camera to the feria. Check out all the yummy fruits and veggies.

There are a lot of alternatives to potatoes, here are a couple.. in front of the papaya and pineapples are yucca and camote. People also cook up both yellow and green plantains.

Papaya!

Chayote, kind of like a cross between squash and potato. Especially good in soups and stir fries.

These little green bananas are called gineas. Another potato alternative, they are great sliced and deep fried with cream cheese, the same as green plantains. That dish is called 'patacones' in Costa Rica and Panama, 'tostones' in Nicaragua.
